Mr. Jake Culbertson

Jake Culbertson enrolled at the Academy of Okinawan Karate's Morton dojo under Sensei Joey Johnston in 2007. Mr Culbertson is currently a Shodan, or first-degree black belt, in Shuri-ryu Karatedo. He is an avid tournament competitor in both kata (forms) and kobudo (weapons) divisions.

2007 - Joined the Academy of Okinawan Karate

2008 - Took first place in kata in his first Spring Tournament
         - Joined the International Federation of Martial Artists

2009 - Promoted to Sankyu (3rd-degree Brown Belt) in Shuri-ryu
         - Promoted to Gokyu (Green Belt) in Kodokan Judo

2010 - Assisted as part of Sensei Joey Johnston's Yondan test

2011 - Voted Best Assistant Instructor of the Morton dojo
         - Promoted to Ikkyu (1st-degree Brown Belt) in Shuri-ryu

2013 - Promoted to Shodan (1st-degree Black Belt) by Sensei Johnston
         - Appointed head instructor of the Eureka dojo

2014 - Placed 1st in Men's Koshiki (fighting in armor) Division for the first time

2015 - Appointed head instructor of the Morton dojo
